Peak fall foliage color in Errol NH

The New England fall foliage report for 17 Oct

Well, it has been a busy week and I have been less than attentive to my writing… If you are still needing point outs then I still have some ideas going into this weekend. Also if you read my blog you will get ideas for future trips (and not only in autumn)

Today’s thoughts

  1. Color still showing in VT/NH and ME
  2. Fall colors slowly showing up in Southern New England
  3. Events this coming weekend. Pumpkins and more!

The fall colors are showing up in central and southern New England!

It seems that even though the rain we got hit with did make it hard to find great color over the Columbus Day Weekend (CDW), it seems color is still showing up in Central to southern areas of VT, NH and ME (no I’m not leaf covered, that’s Maine) 🙂

This is a shot from this morning by Jane Ogilvie  from my Fall foliage FB page (please like my page so you can enjoy more of these shots)

What about MA/RI and CT?

The sun rises and for a moment breaks through the clouds to illuminate the shore and the fall colors of Birch pond in Saugus MA

Birch Pond in Saugus MA.

Well, to start we have been getting warmer than average night temps. This has caused the colors to slow in development and also slowed the fade a little. This has enabled us to find color still this week in southern VT, NH and ME but only (I think) for a few more days. It’s also not whole hill of color. But as you saw above it sure looks good!

The color on the south shore of MA is just starting to warm up. I had a speaking engagement at the South Shore Camera Club and they tell me that their area (south of Boston) is getting colorful in the marshes but really hasn’t fully developed yet.

I also have had reports from Butch Lombardi that RI is coloring up nicely and I have a shot from Diz Bop (that’s their Facebook name?) on my foliage FB page about Lincoln RI and the Chase farm… looking very nice.

So you should get out during this coming weekend and find things to do.. This leads me to post some events so you have something to do while looking for the fall colors. (like how did that transition?) 🙂

This weekends Events

There are hundreds (if not thousands) of things going on this weekend but this is a few different events that I’ve found on the web.

Keene Pumpkin festival, NH
All day in Keen NH until the fireworks go off in the evening. Get there early to enjoy all the family fun to be had.

Newburyport Pumpkin walk, Newburyport MA
The pumpkin walk is from 5-8 through the downtown and you may find me there since I have an assignment to photograph it. So look for me with my camera and tan vest… 🙂

Marini’s farm corn maze, Ipswich, MA
Marini’s Flashlight Nights in their corn maze. Also on Sat/Sun the have hayrides and tons of events for the kids and one fee covers you for all day… (very family friendly)

Historic Newport Mansion Viewing
Oct 18, 2013 – Oct 20, 2013
Antiques, fine and decorative art, furniture and fashion will be among the wide selection of stylish offerings from the Swanhurst Manor House estate sale located on historic Bellevue Avenue beginning October 18 to 20, 2013. The entire contents of this exquisite 8000 square foot home will be for sale, according to organizer Maura Lindsay of Tresor Estate Sales and Fine Consignment.

fall colorI found this page for Pumpkin Patches and More CT
It covers farms and mazes, pumpkin patches, haunted cor patches and everything farm related for Connecticut. It breaks in out into regions so you can pick a small area to explore.

I hope you have a chance to get out and do something harvest related and find some fall colors also. Check in my fall foliage Facebook page and let me know what you find or see what others are finding.

Check my twitter feed and I’ll make posts as I or others find some color.
