The Red Coats Return This Year!
The Topsfield Fair is proud to present the Musical Ride of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police from September 29th to October 5th. This will be their only appearance in the United States this year. The Musical Ride is performed by a full troop of thirty-two riders and horses, plus the member in charge. The Musical Ride consists of the execution of a variety of intricate figures and cavalry drive, choreographed to music. They will appear in the fairgrounds arena daily from Saturday, September 29th through Friday, October 5th and will also be in the Fair’s Grand Parade on Saturday, September 29th.
Dock Dogs Perform First Weekend
“Dock Dogs”, a competition for dogs to dive the furthest into a specially prepared pool, will be held in the Grandstand on the first weekend – Friday, September 28th, Saturday, September 29th and Sunday, September 30th. The competition is open to ALL dogs. Owners must pre-register either on-line at dockdogs.com.
New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off Friday Night, September 28th in the Arena
The weigh-off will begin at 2pm and pumpkins will start being unloaded at 1pm. Will there be a winner this year larger than last year’s 1,668.5 lb. giant grown by Peter DeNigris in Gloucester, MA? Let’s hope the summer heat will help to produce a record weight! Call George and Maryann Hoomis of Ipswich (978) 356-0117 for more information!
The Flying Wallendas
The Flying Wallenda family has been in the circus for over 200 years (8 generations). They are a circus act and daredevil stunt performers, most known for performing high wire acts without a safety net. They will perform in the Grandstand on the final weekend of the Fair – Saturday, October 6th, Sunday, October 7th, and Monday, October 8th.
Military Day Tuesday October 2nd
To honor our military, all active members of the military…men and women, are invited to come to the Fair on Tuesday, October 2nd to be admitted free with their families. They need only to show their identification at the admission gate to be admitted.
Mrs. Essex County Pageant
The Mrs. Essex County Pageant will be held on Sunday, October 7th in Coolidge Hall. The contestants will demonstrate their cooking abilities by entering a food dish for judging, have private interviews, and present themselves at the Pageant on Sunday. This is not a beauty contest… it is an opportunity for “the women of today” to talk about themselves, their interest in the Fair, and their daily activities. The winner will then go on to be the Official Hostess for the 2013 Topsfield Fair throughout the year. Entry forms are available online or by calling the fair office (978) 887-5000.
Duck Races “Quack” By Popular Demand
Duck races return to thrill fairgoers. The fair audience will of course continue watching the Robinson’s Racings Pigs race for Oreo cookies, but they can also watch mallard ducks race too. As part of an educational program prepared by Ducks Unlimited, Inc., 16 people will be chosen to release a live duck across a prepared watch course during a race, and there will be five races in each show. The winners will be awarded a prize! This exhibit will be located just off Grange Road, and races will be held throughout the day. Added this year, both for the Duck Races and the Racing Pigs, will be new expanded seating.
Maximum Velocity Professional Stunt Team
Featuring the hottest riders and skaters in their sport, these expert dare devils perform such maneuvers as “540’s,” “tail whips,” “ice picks,” “tooth picks” and other mind-bending, bone-crushing, skull-popping feats — skying high above a 13-foot-tall, 16-foot-wide half pipe — one of the largest portable half pipes in the world. Also featured is a four-foot-high, 22-foot-long box jump from which riders perform even more in-line and bike-bending wizardry, pulling off “back flips,” “front flips,” “360’s,” “720’s” and other brain-beating, joint-wrenching, heart-ripping stunts. If you ready for the hottest action on wheels, head down Arena Road, you will not be disappointed. The Stunt Team will be here throughout the entire Fair – come visit on Arena Way. Please see the Daily Program for show times.
Express Parking And Shuttle on Weekends
Tired of waiting in traffic to get to the Fair? Let the Fair do the driving! In an effort to alleviate the frustration of waiting in traffic, there will be off-site parking on both weekends at North Shore Community College and Masconomet Regional High School. The Express Shuttle has a special dedicated traffic-free route to the Fair. The NSCC is located just off Route 95 at exit 50: drive onto Route One South, and the college is located on Ferncroft Road in Danvers. Masconomet High School is just off Route 95 at exit 51. Parking is $5. Free continuously operating shuttles take fairgoers to and from their cars to the fairgrounds at both lots. The Topsfield Fair is also offering entertainment for the kids while you wait! A stress free way to start your day at the Fair!
Sinks and Handwash Stations
While everyone is being urged these days to consistently wash their hands, the fair has several hand washing sinks in the rest rooms and outside areas. Sinks are available outside the Nursing Mothers Lounge and alongside the Adult Changing Tent (located behind the Nursing Mother’s Lounge). Hand sanitizer stations are in the buildings on the fairgrounds.
EBSCO Green Pavilion – “Go Green With Us!”
