The fall colors of Rhode Island usually kick off in serious fashion around mid October but depending on the weather for each year you will begin to see the changes as early as late September. But I never head south because I’m spoiled and I want to see really great color.

So I head south around mid October and I do what I normally do which is to hit a lot of the back roads that lead who knows where. I’m using the Rhode Island and Connecticut Gazetteer because they have a lot of suggestions on where to go and things to see. I also stopped at small village general stores which are great for two things, coffee and information. Because one thing I’ve learned is that people love to brag about their area and will tell you all the great places to go if you’re of a mind to listen.
