Ok, is it getting close to our “favorite” season? I put this together (a few years ago) to help you identify whether or not you are a leaf peeper. I’ve added to it over the last 10 years, and I’m always adding to the list.
The problem is, I know I’m a bit obsessed with searching for fall foliage, so my question is… what’s your excuse?

OH, first off…If you are reading this then you are probably a leaf peeper. 🙂

So, in Jeff Foxworthy style,

• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… you have a bumper sticker that reads “I brake for fall foliage”. (No I don’t have one but I should!)
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… you get into Vermont and feel you’re speeding if you exceed 20mph.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… You’re driving along and you have to keep pulling over to let the line of cars pass you. 🙂
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… You count the days until the fall issue of Yankee hits your mailbox…
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… You assume that if the car in front of you is a leaf peeper then you need to give them extra room because, at any moment, they will pull over.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… You can’t wait for the frosty mornings in October to put a comfortable pair of worn jeans on to take a hike.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… You see a branch covered in red and orange and you nearly have an accident looking to pull over for more color.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… cooler weather means cozy clothes, and indoor or outdoor fires to curl up by, and you are ok with that!
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if…The perfect day involves apple picking, apple cider, cider donuts, and finding fall foliage, bright fall color over a covered bridge, and reflection of all that underneath it.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… You made your reservations for next year’s vacation, even before you left the B&B where you were staying this fall.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… Your big vacation isn’t during the summer but at the beginning of October.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… Wearing a fleece pullover is akin to a religious moment.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… You look forward to the overnight temps in northern VT, NH, and ME towards giving you the first frost of fall.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… A slow October train ride through a foliage-filled notch in the Mountains sounds like heaven.

• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… Picking and baking apple pies is a family adventure (even if you are a family of one!)
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… A two-for-one special isn’t found in a store; it means you’ve found a pond with gorgeous color above the pond reflected back up in the mirror-like surface.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… You show a slide show vacation images of your autumn trip, instead of your grandkids.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… You have a Delorme map book for each New England state with all of your past foliage trip routes marked in it.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… Carving the Halloween pumpkin is a wonderful childhood memory (and an adult one as well!)
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… Going out means hitting the farm stand, and the corn maze, and looking for the fall colors in between.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… You run to the store to check if Brach’s candy corn is available yet
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… You’ve been to Vermont so many times you know to ask for a Creemee and NOT soft serve.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… You get excited if a wing of geese goes flying by heading South.
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… Are you actually ok with everything flavored in pumpkin spice?
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… After raking up a big pile of leaves in the yard, you still have the urge to jump in!
• You know you’re a leaf peeper if… You listen to Cheryl Wheeler’s song “When fall comes to New England” from Sept to the end of fall…
• According to Heather… You are a leaf peeper if you call any random State of Vermont office and ask what time the leaves will peak.
