Foliage update and winner of October contest — 11 Comments

  1. hi, We are thinking of visiting NH this weekend Oct 28-29. what is the best place to catch the beautiful colors? If not NH, then any other recommendations?

  2. I was thinking of going to RI in a week or two around the Providence/Pawtuckett area. Does anyone have any intel on the color there?

  3. I’ve been traveling back and forth from Belfast to Camden. Some nice color, but Camden Hills State Park is nowhere near peak yet. From Mt Battie you look around and see patches of color.

    • Go west young man, go west. I just got back and the colors are very late and I found some peak color along Route 17 between Coos Canyon south to Rumford. Then it faded for a bit and then I found more on the Maine/New Hampshire border on Route 113. It is NOT widespread but it is there. If you get there today (the 19th) you will or should be in the thick of it. Evans Notch is very pretty. It is there but you have to find it.Evans Notch in Maine

  4. Hey Jeff we’re in Winchester Virginia and have yet to see any colors at all. Any ideas where we should go next to maybe see some colors

    • I took a quick look and you are still mostly in the 70s with some 60s over the next ten days and your lows are fairly decent with 40s for the most part. But I suspect that your area of the country will bee another 2 weeks before enough cold happen to really trigger the colors to change. Other than that I’m not as familiar with your area to know when you change normally…

  5. I drove 202 Lebanon to Old Orchard Beach Maine. There was some very nice color often and bright but also areas of less as you stated. Went down route 1 and 9A and hit Kennebunkport/Kennebunk, Oginquit and York. Some nice color through out for viewing. Some green or past as well. Route 91 to 236 to Salmon Falls rd from York, Maine to Rochester has some very nice bright color for viewing. A lot was in front of houses so I did not take photos. I was also on the way home with my Mom so took less time to stop than normal. I did get a nice river photo in Kennebunk that has that early color look with green still in there. I hope to go back this Friday. Plan to go to lakes area tomorrow.

  6. Got my calendars, they make great Christmas presents.
Your reports keep me going now that I’m back home after a wonderful trip around New Hampshire , Vermont and Mass. Look forward to seeing what’s going down in Maine.
